The investment world seems obsessed with hedge fund “guru” holdings and activities. One set of investors seems to have come to the conclusion that only well-known hedge funds are doing quality research and eagerly await the latest 13F filing to learn what was bought and sold in popular hedge funds. There are numerous websites and blogs that are devoted just to this task. Another set of investors seems to have concluded that no amount of active management is worth paying for and have fled to passively managed ETFs. While we believe that both groups have their merits and their drawbacks, we still think investors can find value (pardon the pun) in tracking and investing in mutual funds run by managers that adhere to the value investing principles we talk about on this site.
